DSU Planetarium – School Shows

 

 

Fall 2009/Spring 2010 Season

The DSU Planetarium can present School Shows for any educational level: 5K, Elementary School, Junior High School, and High School. Each show takes about 1 hour and contains a short educational introduction to the main subject of the show, a Planetarium Sky presentation, and an educational movie. A list of topics available for the school shows is as follows:

  1. Cosmic Space around us (members, distances, deepness).
  2. Our Universe moves and expands.
  3. Astronomy as one of the oldest sciences in the world.
  4. …The Solar System was born. (From the Big Bang to the Solar System).
  5. Light and Telescopes in Astronomy.
  6. Solar System – its members and their motions (Kepler’s Laws, Newton’s Laws).
  7. Major Planets Group in the Solar System.
  8. Plutoids (Dwarf Planets Group) - why Pluto was excluded from the Major Group of Planets, Asteroid Belt, and Kuiper Belt Objects.
  9. Other Solar System Members: Planetary Moons, Meteors and Comets (where are they from?)
  10. The Earth – our own Planet, the atmosphere around the Earth, the existence of life on the Earth surface.
  11. The Moon – our cosmic companion.
  12. Earth and Moon as a system: their motion and relationships (Moon Phases, Lunar and Solar Eclipses, Tides).
  13. Our Planet Earth rotates and orbits the Sun (day and night, the reason for seasons).
  14. Observational effects (in the sky) of rotational and orbital motion of the Earth.
  15. Celestial Sphere and our local sky.
  16. The Sun is our “own” star (generally description of the Sun).
  17. The Sun and distant stars.
  18. The Sun and our problems in measuring time.
  19. Distant stars in our sky – constellations, brightness, distances, masses, stars’ lives.
  20. Binary systems of stars.
  21. Milky Way Galaxy and other galaxies in the Universe.

    Any proposed show can be prepared for any level of education.

    tell us the number of students (max. 60 people in one group), the grade and your requirements (the number  of the show topic list above which you would like to see). Any individual requests can be given to us and they will be prepared for you and for your students.

     

    The Schedule of Planetarium shows for schools:

                   Monday:        10:00a.m.   11:15a.m     

                   Wednesday: 10:00a.m.   11:15a.m    

                   Friday:           10:00a.m.   11:15a.m   

    (except University Holidays and seasonal breaks).

     

    Planetarium fee:

                   No fee.
